BLACK AND INDIGENOUS LIBERATION DAY

OCTOBER 12

“It wasn't the Discovery of America, it was the beginning of the invasion of America by Europe, it was the invasion and plundering of everything.”

The 12th of October has a long history of protest movements in the Americas, dating back to at least the 19th century. However, it was not until the second half of the 20th century that this struggle gained strength, due to uprisings led by indigenous peoples and taken up by left-wing political parties.

In 1992, at the 500th anniversary of the colonization of the Americas, 350 indigenous representatives from all over the hemisphere gathered in Quito, Ecuador, to protest against the celebration of Columbus Day and to re-signify the date to commemorate the resistance of indigenous and black communities, declaring it "The International Solidarity Day with Indigenous Peoples".

We want the whole world to join us in our efforts to deconstruct the injustice and lies that support the doctrine of Discovery, glorified by Columbus Day.

Now, more than ever, the 12th of October must become a symbol of our growing historical consciousness and anti-colonial resistance expressed in our political, cultural and artistic movements.

TERRITORIAL ACTIONS
We believe that day after day, the struggle against racism and colonization is forged in each of the resistance actions of indigenous and black communities. For this reason, we support and promote direct actions on the front line, in the territories.
